Why HSM works
Nostalgia with
a jazz hand.
If the bride grew up somewhere between 2005 and 2010, this theme sells itself before we've said a word. A generation of hens now hitting their late twenties and thirties learnt these songs off the telly on repeat, and there's a particular joy in watching that muscle memory wake up mid-class — someone always shrieks "I still know this!" around the fifteen-minute mark. Among the 38-plus hen themes we teach across Plymouth, it's the one that turns grown professionals back into year nines, in the best possible way.
The routine your choreographer builds takes its cues from the franchise's signature moments — basketball-bounce footwork, the cafeteria table-top arms (danced safely at floor level), a status-quo-shaking chorus that begs for the whole squad in formation. To keep things straight: we teach original choreography inspired by that noughties songbook, with no link to any studio or franchise. If the squad wants to double down on the era's other icons, the Disney theme covers the wider songbook of childhood, while Cheerleading supplies the pom-pom half of the fantasy.
Red and white outfits, foam fingers and jerseys all crank up the photos — the wardrobe comes from you, since we don't hold costume stock, and half the fun is the group chat deciding who's a jock and who's a drama kid. Fair few of our HSM brides have carried the momentum on: some straight into first dance choreography for the big day itself, still humming about breaking free.

Period by period
A timetable for
the last dance.
Registration is a bouncy noughties warm-up that shakes the awkwardness out fast. Lessons then run in blocks: the basketball footwork first because it's instantly funny, the big squad formation next, and the chorus choreography drilled phrase by phrase until twenty people snap into shape on one beat like they rehearsed all semester.
Come the final bell, the class runs the whole number full-tilt while the bride takes her homecoming moment out front. Book ninety minutes and you graduate with honours — an extra verse of choreography, a proper camera run of the jump-and-freeze ending, and enough footage to hijack the wedding slideshow.
Yearbook entries
Voted most likely
to book again.
"Fourteen women in their thirties reverted to year nine within about six minutes and honestly it was beautiful. The bride's homecoming bit had us howling."
"We put jerseys on, learnt the whole thing, screamed the chorus, and then sang it again in the taxi, the restaurant and the hotel corridor. Sorry, hotel."
"Genuinely could not have picked better for a group of school friends marrying off the first of us. Full circle moment."
"Muscle memory from 2007 is real and it is powerful."
HSM specifics
Homework,
already done.
Frequently raised hands from groups planning a High School Musical hen class in Plymouth — the form below handles anything off-syllabus.
01What's on the High School Musical playlist?
Instantly — the session is soundtracked by the noughties numbers your group grew up rewinding, plus a couple of era-matched crowd-lifters. For clarity, our choreography is original work inspired by that songbook; we're an independent Plymouth company with no connection to any franchise or studio.
02Can we film the High School Musical finale?
They'll survive and probably convert. The moves are taught from zero, the songs are catchy enough to learn in one chorus, and the fun comes from doing it together rather than from getting the references. Mums and aunties routinely have the most fun in the room.
03How energetic is the routine?
Bouncy rather than brutal — think school-disco stamina, not a fitness class. Everything scales, so the pregnant bridesmaid and the marathon runner can share a formation happily, and water breaks are woven in between sections.
04Does the bride get the Gabriella spotlight?
She gets the homecoming treatment: the squad forms her guard of honour, the chorus revolves around her, and the final jump frames her dead centre. We tune the wattage to her personality — just tell us on the form whether she's front-row energy or happier flanked by her girls.
05Is Wildcats fancy dress encouraged?
Red and white everything is warmly encouraged, from jerseys to cheer skirts — supplied by you, since costumes aren't something we keep. Underneath the fancy dress, trainers and clothes you can jump in are the only real requirement.
06Can East High come to our accommodation?
Our HSM parties dance at a studio we hire in Plymouth city centre — an easy walk from the shops and bars where most groups head next, with the exact venue named on your booking confirmation. Alternatively, if your accommodation has a big enough living space, the teacher can bring East High to you.
