Why Wicked works

Every hen group contains both witches: the Glindas who arrive glossy and organised, and the Elphabas quietly planning to steal the finale. This theme lets them declare themselves. Our Wicked-inspired session — ours alone, unaffiliated with any stage production or studio — has soared up the list of hen party dance classes in Plymouth since the films landed, and it books like a two-show day around school holidays. It's also, quietly, the most emotional theme on the list — For Good has soundtracked enough friendship montages that we keep it well away from the warm-up, or nothing would get taught. Consider yourselves warned about the finale for the same reason.
The choreography is pure musical theatre made manageable: a strutting Popular section stuffed with hair-flips and sass, then the gear change everyone is waiting for — Defying Gravity, arms wide, wind machine imaginary but strongly implied. Belting along is not merely permitted; it is structurally important. Show-tune devotees can take the whole songbook further with our Musicals theme, while queens who prefer their crowns historical should try SIX the Musical on for size. The routine is written so the green and pink halves mirror and answer each other, which means the more competitive your particular coven is, the better the whole thing looks.
Dress codes write themselves — half the group in green, half in pink, bride in whichever she has secretly always been — all sourced by you, worn with pride. The studio sits in the city centre with the Hoe close enough for a dramatic cloaked photo afterwards. And since one big musical number often awakens the performer within, a fair few of our brides go on to treat the first dance as their encore, with wedding dance lessons in Plymouth as the rehearsal room. Book the ninety-minute slot if your party leans theatrical: the extra half hour is where the choreography stops being learned and starts being performed, and with this crowd that distinction matters enormously.

The Wicked hour,
act by act.
Act one is the warm-up and the casting: who's green, who's pink, who's secretly both. The Popular section comes first because sass is easier than sorcery — struts, flicks and pointed looks, block by block, until the room performs it without thinking.
Act two builds Defying Gravity: the slow gather, the wide-arm rise, the bride centre stage as the music swells and every phone in the room comes out. Ninety-minute bookings gain an extra number and enough runs of the finale to get the goosebump take.

01Is this an official Wicked production event?
No — we're not connected to the stage show, the films or their producers. This is our own hen party class inspired by the story and its songs, choreographed in-house. The drama, however, is thoroughly professional.
02Which songs does the routine use?
Popular and Defying Gravity are the twin pillars — one for sass, one for the soaring finale. Ninety-minute sessions usually squeeze in a third number, and if the bride worships What Is This Feeling, the enquiry form is where to say so.
03Do we need theatre or dance experience?
None whatsoever — enthusiasm impersonates talent very convincingly in musical theatre. The moves are broad, expressive and taught in slow layers, so the hen who has never danced sober still lands the finale. Committing to the drama is the only real skill required.
04Should we do the green and pink thing?
If you can organise it between yourselves, absolutely — half Elphaba, half Glinda makes the face-off section sing and the photos ridiculous. Otherwise anything comfortable works; leave the six-inch heels to the professionals and bring shoes you can strut in.
05What's the bride's big moment?
She takes the Defying Gravity climax — centre stage, arms rising, the whole company turned towards her as the chorus peaks. No actual flying is involved, we promise, but the footage genuinely looks like a curtain call and she will absolutely milk it.

Our stage is a studio we hire in Plymouth city centre, placed handily for the Hoe, the station and the rest of your plans — you'll receive the exact address when the booking is confirmed. If your accommodation offers proper floor space, the production can tour to you.
